When Should You Have Your Senior Photos Taken?

This is a question I get asked a lot. My answer is always the same... schedule your session during the time of of year that works best for you. Senior portraits can be taken ANYTIME of the year but there are a few things to consider when scheduling your senior photography session.

How Busy Are You During the School Year?

If you're working and/or involved in extracurricular activities during the school year, it may be best to schedule your session during the summer months. Balancing school, work, and other activities can be overwhelming so having your photos taken during the slower months of summer will be less stress and result in better images.

Are You Using Your Photos For Gifts, Announcements, or The Yearbook?

Most yearbook submission deadlines happen in October, so if you want to submit a photo before that deadline then a spring or summer session is best. If you want to include your images in holiday cards, you'll need to schedule your session no later than the middle of October. If your only concern is having photos to include in graduation announcements then you have a lot more flexibility when it comes to scheduling your senior session.

What Is Your Favorite Time of Year?

Does the thought of golden fall foliage and pumpkin spice everything give you all the feels? Or are fields of wildflowers, sun tanned legs and warm sand beaches more your jam? Maybe you live for white covered mountains and hitting the slopes every weekend. Whatever your preference, scheduling your photos during the time of year that resonates most with you will result in images that light you up inside and showcase more of your personality.

Ask yourself these three questions when choosing the date for your senior session. A good photographer can take gorgeous images of you no matter the season. Your senior session celebrates you and how far you have come and I am here to celebrate this special time with you.
